Flower Care
It is important to take proper care of your flowers to ensure maximum life. A floral arrangement should last from 3-7 days or longer depending on the flowers, the conditions they are kept in and the care they receive.
Please follow these simple guidelines to help maximise your floral arrangement life
Keep flowers in a vase
Transfer your flowers to a vase if they are not already in one. Keep the flowers soaked in water containing flower food provided by the florist. The flower food is generally provided in a satchel and is diluted into the water in the vase.
Remove any leaves in the vase water
Remove any leaves from the base of the stems before placing the flowers in the vase (i.e. stems should be in the water and the leaves and foliage above the water line.
Keep the water clean
If the water in the vase becomes cloudy, replace it with some fresh water and flower food solution.
Recut the stems
Recut stems with a sharp knife about 2-4 cm from the end of the stem. Use a sharp knife to create a clean cut, don’t crush the stems (try to avoid using household scissors). Also try to cut the stems on an angle to maximise water absorption by providing a larger surface area.
Location, Location, Location!
Keep flowers in a cool spot out of direct sunlight. Also avoid keeping flowers on top of warm appliances or under air conditioning vents
Flower food
If you run out of flower food, or did not receive any, you can dissolve a tablespoon of sugar into 1 litre of water (or 1.5 teaspoons in 500ml). Also add 1 teaspoon of lemon juice or vinegar. Make sure you change the solution regularly so you flowers always have some fresh food.
