| Origin | South Africa |
| Colours | Yellow, Pink, Orange, Purple plus many more |
| Meaning | Cheerfulness, Innocence and Purity |
Very much like sunflowers in their appearance, gerberas are the flower of cheerfulness and joy. Found in a wide array of different colours, a bouquet of gerberas is sure to make a great impression on a friend or partner.
The gerbera was only discovered by botanists as recently as 1884, in South Africa. The Gerbera was exported to Northern Europe, the United Kingdom and the United States where their popularity quickly increased. Breeding programs were introduced to increase the intensity of the flower’s colour.
There are around thirty species of gerbera spanning Africa and tropical regions of Asia.
The likeness of the gerbera to the daisy meant many people associated the same meanings of innocence and purity to the flower. However, the flower also became a symbol of cheerfulness because of the bright array of colouring the flower adopts.
Gerberas are a flower of friendship. When you want to send a gift for a thank you or a note of appreciation they are a great choice.
